Job Description
Role: Commercial Manager Location:Farnborough, willing to consider Malvern or Boscombe down (3 days onsite) Rate: Negoatiable Length: initially 6 months SC Cleared Contractor The Materials, Manufacturing & Products team provide various levels of support from Category Management to project delivery of owned products. We are responsible for a spend of circa £100 million across key categories including but not limited to Contract Electrical Manufacturing, Precision Engineering and Engineering Support Services. This role sits within the dedicated Category Management spoke of the department. The team are responsible for delivering fit for purpose eco systems that align to our various capabilities not only delivering value for money but supporting a validated response to our customers' needs. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage procurement and commercial activities across multiple construction and infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with project objectives, budgets, and delivery programmes. Administer and manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including contract formation, change control, compensation events, early warning processes, risk management, and contract compliance. Provide commercial leadership and governance across projects, ensuring robust cost control, forecasting, reporting, and commercial decision-making. Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, and supply chain partners to ensure successful project delivery. Manage commercial risks and opportunities, proactively identifying issues and implementing mitigation strategies to protect project and organisational interests. Provide guidance and support to project teams on contractual matters, procurement best practice, and commercial management processes. Lead negotiations on contractual and commercial matters, ensuring favourable outcomes while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. Monitor supplier and contractor performance, ensuring contractual obligations, quality standards, programme requirements, and key performance indicators are achieved. Support the development and delivery of long-term procurement and commercial strategies, contributing to the organisation's planned growth and operational objectives over the next three years. Contribute to sustainability and Net Zero initiatives by embedding sustainable procurement principles and supporting low-carbon project delivery wherever possible. Prepare and present commercial reports, procurement updates, cost forecasts, and risk assessments to senior leadership and project stakeholders. Ensure all procurement and commercial activities are undertaken in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, governance requirements, and best practice standards Experience and Qualifications Proven experience operating as a Procurement and Commercial Manager within the construction sector. With a background in construction, engineering, and manufacturing environments Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4) including contract administration, change control, risk management, and commercial governance Demonstrable experience managing procurement activities across the project lifecycle Experience Providing commercial and procurement support - develop procurement strategies aligned to project objectives Procurement and Commercial Manager with strong NEC contract experience, a background in construction projects and proven client-side delivery experience. Candidates with exposure to Net Zero initiatives and early-stage project development (RIBA 0-2) would be desirable.
