Job Description
CNC Miller High-Precision Engineering | R&D and Prototype Manufacturing TXM Recruit is supporting a leading engineering organisation in the recruitment of an experienced CNCMiller to join its growing manufacturing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled CNC machinist to work within a fast-paced, R&D-focused environment, producing complex, high-value components for prototype and low-volume production programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting and operating high-precision CNC milling machines, including 3-, 4- and 5-axis machining centres. You will also help develop machining strategies, optimise tooling and processes, and work closely with engineering teams and tooling suppliers to improve manufacturing performance. Key Responsibilities As a CNC Miller, your responsibilities will include: * Programming, setting, and operating 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC milling machines. * Editing and proving out CNC programs using Heidenhain, Fanuc, and Siemens controls. * Setting fixtures, tooling, work offsets, and machine parameters. * Producing complex, high-value components for R&D, prototype, and low-volume production requirements. * Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing procedures. * Selecting and optimising tooling, cutting strategies, and machining processes. * Making tooling, program and work-offset adjustments as required. * Inspecting completed components using precision measuring equipment and hand gauges. * Interpreting CMM inspection results and making appropriate machining adjustments. * Supporting the development of new machining processes, tooling, and fixture designs. * Working closely with engineering teams to improve machining methods and component manufacturability. * Using structured problem-solving techniques to resolve machining and process-related issues. * Producing accurate work instructions, process documentation, and change-order records. * Supporting corrective-action plans and monitoring the effectiveness of process improvements. * Coordinating with production planners to balance workload, priorities, and turnaround requirements. * Participating in daily shop-floor briefings to discuss objectives, challenges, and improvement opportunities. * Mentoring and supporting apprentices and less-experienced machinists. * Contributing to 6S, lean manufacturing, and continuous-improvement initiatives. Skills and Experience To be considered for this opportunity, you should have: * Strong experience programming, setting, and operating multi-axis CNC milling machines. * Proven experience across 3-, 4-, and ideally 5-axis machining. * Experience using Heidenhain, Fanuc, and/or Siemens CNC controls. * The ability to edit G-code and prove out new or modified CNC programs. * Experience producing complex, high-precision components. * The ability to work confidently from detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and procedures. * Strong knowledge of tooling selection, workholding, feeds, speeds and machining strategies. * Experience using precision measuring equipment and interpreting CMM inspection results. * A practical and methodical approach to troubleshooting machining and manufacturing issues. * The ability to manage competing priorities and meet delivery commitments. * Experience working within a 6S, lean manufacturing or continuous-improvement environment.
