SEND Teaching Assistant - Specialist School
Location: Barnet, North London
Salary: £95-£115 per day PAYE
Contract: Full-time, Long-term / Supply
Start Date: ASAP
Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for experienced and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistants to join a friendly and supportive specialist school in Barnet.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs and wants to work in a specialist environment where no two days are the same.
The school supports pupils with a range of complex additional needs, including Autism, SLD, MLD and communication difficulties, and is looking for TAs who can provide consistent, patient and nurturing support.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and the wider support team to help pupils access learning, develop their communication and build independence.
Your responsibilities may include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support both inside and outside of the classroom
Supporting pupils with Autism and other complex SEND
Helping pupils develop communication, social and independence skills
Supporting sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing
Assisting with the implementation of individual EHCP targets
Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using positive strategies
Supporting pupils with their daily routines and, where required, personal care
Using communication approaches such as PECS, Makaton or AAC
Working closely with teachers, therapists and other professionals
Creating a calm, safe and inclusive learning environmentThe Ideal Candidate
The school is looking for someone who is:
Experienced working with children or young people with SEND
Confident supporting pupils with Autism and complex needs
Patient, calm and empathetic
Comfortable supporting pupils with communication difficulties
Able to build strong relationships with pupils and staff
Proactive and willing to get involved
Passionate about helping young people develop and achieve their potentialPrevious experience within a specialist SEND school, ARP, SEN provision, care setting or similar environment would be highly beneficial.
Relevant qualifications such as CACHE, Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching & Learning, Autism qualifications or Team Teach are desirable but not essential where you have strong relevant experience.
