Health and Safety Manager
Location: Exeter, Devon, with travel across sites in the South West
Contract: Permanent, full-time
Salary: Competitive, plus benefits
Are you an experienced Health and Safety Manager who enjoys getting out on site, engaging with people, and making a genuine difference?
We are recruiting for a well-established and forward-thinking manufacturing and engineering business seeking an influential Health and Safety Manager to support its operations across several South West locations.
This is a hands-on, multi-site position where you will lead safety improvements, strengthen existing systems and help create a culture in which health and safety is understood, embraced, and embedded at every level.
What will you be doing?
Leading a behavioural safety improvement programme across multiple manufacturing and engineering sites
Supporting the implementation and ongoing development of ISO 45001
Conducting site inspections and audits, ensuring actions are completed and recorded
Developing and reviewing health and safety policies, procedures, and risk-management strategies
Delivering and coordinating health and safety training
Supporting accident and incident investigations, identifying root causes, and implementing corrective actions
Monitoring safety data to identify trends and recommend proactive improvements
Working closely with site managers, supervisors, and operational teams
Supporting fire safety and environmental-management activities
Producing monthly safety briefings and coordinating committee meetings
Keeping the business informed of relevant legislative changes and industry best practice
What are we looking for?
You will be an experienced health and safety professional with the confidence to influence people at every level. You should be comfortable working in operational environments and able to balance legislative compliance with practical, commercially sensible solutions.
Essential experience and qualifications include:
NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
CertIOSH status, ideally working towards CMIOSH
At least five years’ experience in a senior health and safety position
Multi-site experience within manufacturing, engineering or a similar operational environment
Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 45001
Strong auditing, inspection, risk-assessment and accident-investigation experience
A good working knowledge of UK health and safety legislation
The ability to engage, coach and positively influence operational teams
Experience of ISO 14001, environmental management or fire-risk assessments would be advantageous but is not essential.
Why apply?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business where health and safety is taken seriously. You will have the autonomy to shape improvements, introduce new ideas and influence the organisation’s wider health and safety strategy.
You’ll work with a supportive leadership team while remaining visible and connected to the people working across the operational sites
