Commercial Manager - Civil Engineering
Location: Midlands - Leicester / Derby region
Salary: Circa £110,000 + Company Car / Car Allowance + Benefits
Commercial Manager required to join a leading Civil Engineering contractor as they continue to expand their workload across the Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity for either an established Commercial Manager or an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking to take the next step in their career.
The contractor delivers major civil engineering and infrastructure schemes, with current and upcoming work encompassing highways infrastructure, earthworks, drainage, utilities, groundworks, enabling works, foundations and general infrastructure projects.
Projects range from individual civils packages through to major infrastructure schemes, offering the successful Commercial Manager the opportunity to take ownership of the commercial performance of significant projects while supporting and developing the wider commercial team.

Commercial Manager Job Overview
Take commercial responsibility for civil engineering projects across the Midlands
Manage project cost, value, cash flow and profitability
Produce and oversee monthly CVR reporting, forecasting and cost projections
Ensure client valuations and applications are submitted accurately and on time
Manage contractual notices, change control and variations
Identify commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle
Manage subcontract procurement, appointments, valuations and final accounts
Ensure contractual entitlement is identified, recorded and maximised
Work closely with Project Managers and operational teams to monitor project performance
Review construction methodologies and identify opportunities for value engineering
Manage commercial relationships with clients and the supply chain
Lead, mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff
Support projects from pre-construction through delivery and final account
Ensure commercial processes and procedures are implemented consistently across projects
Commercial Manager Job Requirements
Previous experience as a Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
Strong background within civil engineering or infrastructure contracting
Experience across areas such as highways, earthworks, drainage, utilities, groundworks or enabling works
Strong understanding of project cost control, CVRs, forecasting and cash management
Experience administering main contracts and subcontracts
Good knowledge of change management, variations and contractual notices
Strong subcontract procurement and final account experience
Experience working on technically challenging civil engineering projects
Comfortable working closely with operational and project delivery teams
Previous experience managing or mentoring commercial staff advantageous
Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline preferred
Full UK driving licence
