Estimator - Civil Engineering and Water
North Yorkshire
£50,000 - £70,000 + package, depending on experience
An established utilities contractor who are looking to strengthen their commercial team with an experienced Estimator based from their Knaresborough office.
The business has a strong pipeline of work across the water sector and is heavily involved in AMP8 schemes, so this is a great opportunity for an Estimator with a background in water, utilities or civil engineering to join a growing team and work on a range of live and upcoming projects.
As Estimator, you'll be responsible for preparing accurate and commercially competitive tenders across a range of predominantly water-based contracts.
You'll work closely with the commercial, operational and delivery teams to understand project requirements, develop costs and ensure tenders are submitted accurately and on time.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing detailed estimates and tenders for water and civil engineering projects
Reviewing drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation
Carrying out detailed take-offs and producing accurate cost estimates
Pricing labour, plant, materials and subcontract packages
Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor quotations
Identifying risks, opportunities and potential commercial issues
Working closely with the commercial and operational teams throughout the tender process
Supporting the preparation of tender submissions
Maintaining estimating records and cost databases
Liaising with clients, suppliers and subcontractors where required
Supporting the handover of successful tenders to the delivery team
About you
Previous experience in an Estimating role within the construction or utilities sector
Experience pricing water or civil engineering projects
A good understanding of water infrastructure and associated civil engineering works
Experience working from drawings, specifications and scopes of work
Strong knowledge of labour, plant, materials and subcontract costs
Good commercial awareness with strong attention to detail
The ability to manage multiple tenders and work to deadlines
Good communication skills and the confidence to deal with clients, suppliers and subcontractors
Experience with estimating software and Microsoft Office
